Wm. Bingham & Co. - Cleveland, Ohio - c. 1890. 5/8 Square Point. Water Buffalo Horn scales with a lead spacer. Although unmarked with the country of origin, the shape of the tang and rattail indicate that this razor was most likely made in Sheffield, England with this large hardware store's trademark, a common practice of the day. This razor has been lightly restored and honed to a super keen edge by Lynn Abrams.
Grind: Half Hollow.
Condition: Very Good
Front Tang Marking: "Wm. Bingham & Co." over "Cleveland, O"
Rear Tang Marking: None
Blade Etch: None
Both pins appear to have been replaced but are tight. This may have occured when the razor was restored in the past. However, the scales, which apper to be contemporary to the razor, are in excellent condition with remarkably minimal wear and no significant damage.
The blade had numerous spots of surface corrosion when we received it. These have been buffed out but evidence remains in the form of dark spotting, most notably on the front of the blade near the tip. The blade now has a bright mirror finish. It also appears to have had minimal use and shows almost no honing wear. The edge does exhibit a smile with equal wear at both the toe and heel. We have had the razor professionally honed. So, it is completely shave ready.
